Boheringer Opens Contract Manufacturing Business In Mexico

Given its privileged geographical location, the Boehringer Ingelheim Promeco facility in Mexico will start contract manufacturing service for pharmaceuticals as of this year, the company informed.

Boehringer Ingelheim has more than ten years of global experience in this business segment. "The purpose of this new division is to offer advantages such as quality, low price and a strategic geographical location. These are attributes that other companies cannot offer, since we are FDA-certified for the manufacturing and export of prescription drugs to the United States," the company emphasized.

Alessandro Banchi, chairman of the Boehringer Ingelheim board of managing directors, said Mexico continues to be a strategic center for the company, since last year the total sales reached 630 million dollars.

"Once again, the American continent had an excellent performance and was the region with the greatest sales. In America the net sales amounted to over 50% of the total sales," he explained.

Overall, Boehringer Ingelheim's sales increased 11% globally, for a total of €10.6 billion. Moreover, the number of employees increased 3% to over 38,400 employees all around the world.

The company invested €1.6 billion in Research & Development (R&D), 16% more than the previous year. Boehringer Ingelheim ranks 15 among the international drug companies, operates through 137 affiliates in 47 countries and has specialized in the respiratory system and veterinary products since it was first established.

By 2007, the company expects a moderate net sales growth, which will be slightly higher that the market growth.
