Ypsomed acquires the whole of Ziegelmattareal in Solothurn from Ascom
Burgdorf, 27 June 2006, 7:30 am – Ypsomed has substantially increased its production capacity over the last 24 months and is acquiring additional Ziegelmattareal property at Ypsomed's Solothurn site from Ascom for CHF 12.45 million with effect from 1st July 2006. This acquisition will increase the current surface area of the Solothurn production site by around 27,200 m2 to a total of 42,500 m2. This purchase means that Ypsomed is now the sole owner of the Ziegelmattareal.
Willy Michel, Chairman of Ypsomed: "Ypsomed will continue to see considerable growth in its business in pen systems and injectors and will require additional production facilities in the medium and long term. With this acquisition, Ypsomed is securing strategically important infrastructure for expansion and is signalling clear commitment to Switzerland as a production base."
Ypsomed will also take over the existing tenancy agreements and is planning to expand production in the industrial section of the site in the medium term. In collaboration with the authorities, Ypsomed will draw up plans for the site in order to determine overall future usage. Ascom has engaged competent specialist companies to prepare and execute a soil cleanup concept for a closely defined area of the newly acquired land. Implementation is scheduled to begin in autumn 2006 and should take around two years, during which period the use of the land will not be restricted. The costs will be borne by Ascom.
