In 2011, our oral drug delivery platform was complemented by the addition of the RESOMER® polymers, which are used for depot formulations and bioresorbable medical devices such as surgical plates, fasteners, screws or drug eluting stents. Their high level of purity and their excellent mechanical properties provide a comprehensive basis for innovative and patient-friendly applications.
Homopolymers of lactide (polylactides) are mainly used to produce biodegradable implants such as orthopedic fixation devices. Copolymers of lactide and glycolide form the basis for sustained release drug delivery systems. Modification of molecular weight, the monomer ratio or using other monomers provides copolymers with different mechanical and degradation properties.
