Fuchs Lubricants has over 40 years' successful experience in the production of excipients in the form of white and yellow soft paraffins and white oils. These products are used by pharmaceutical companies worldwide.

Fuchs Lubricants is a subsidiary of Fuchs Petrolub, a global group based in Mannheim, Germany, which produces and distributes lubricants and related specialities around the world. Fuchs Group's turnover was €1.2bn in 2009 and the group currently employs approximately 3,500 people worldwide.

Soft paraffins (petrolatum)

Fuchs soft paraffins (petrolatum) are a semi-solid purified mixture of hydrocarbons containing waxes and oil. Fuchs soft paraffins are odourless and range in colour from pure white to yellow depending on the desired effect. The melting range and consistency dictate overall product performance, which is designed to retain its structure but still be easily spread on the skin. Fuchs soft paraffins are occlusive by nature and are extremely hydrating to the skin.

Fuchs soft paraffins are used extensively in the pharmaceutical industry as the basis of creams, lotions and ointments.

All our grades meet the European Pharmacopoeia Monograph as a minimum and our quality regime enables us to manufacture some of the world's most consistent and pure products.

Pharmaceutical white oils

Fuchs white oils are highly refined mineral hydrocarbons, consisting of saturated aliphatic hydrocarbons. Fuchs white oils maintain a safe, highly hydrophobic, colourless and tasteless character next to the skin, which makes them ideal for pharmaceutical use. The naturally low water content makes them highly resistant to bacterial spoilage and naturally unable to block skin pores. Fuchs white oils set the standard in purity and safety.

Fuchs white oils are the ideal choice for pharmaceutical bases. They are classed as inert products in pharmaceutical applications, which enable their naturally lubricating and soothing nature full reign in many pharmaceutical applications.

Fuchs white oils can be supplied in bulk and barrels to the highest European Good Manufacturing Practice Standards in our custom-built, computer-controlled facility. A wide viscosity range can be catered for to produce blends suitable for all our customers' needs. Fuchs white oils are produced to meet the European Pharmacopoeia standards for light and liquid paraffin, and also meet the requirements for the USP / NF Mineral and Light Mineral Oil USP.

Approved soft paraffins and white oils

The Fuchs Hanley manufacturing plant, equipment and processes are approved and routinely inspected and audited by the UK Medicines and Healthcare regulatory agency, Department of Health, according to Commission directive 2001/83/EC.

• GMP (The Orange Guide) - the Hanley plant strictly adopted GMP in accordance with the Rules & Guidance for Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Distributors for Medicinal Products for Human Use in compliance with EC Directive 2003/94/EC
• Operations and procedures for the production of soft paraffins and white oils are under the control of Registered Qualified Persons; products are released in accordance with Article 51 of EC Directive 2001/83/EC
• Quality management system is approved under BS EN ISO 9001-2004
• Environmental management system - Fuchs Lubricants is accredited to BS EN ISO 14001-2004 and is working towards introducing safety management systems to the requirements of OHSAS 18001
