BENEO-Palatinit

BENEO-Palatinit - galenIQ™ - The Smart Filler / Binder

BENEO-Palatinit, member of the Südzucker Group has introduced a multifunctional sugar-free excipient under the brand name galenIQ™. Combining the advantages of other well-known fillers and binders, galenIQ™ will facilitate pharmaceutical development and formulation. With physical and chemical modifications galenIQ™ qualities are tailor-made for pharmaceutical applications mainly in the field of solid-dosage forms for oral delivery.

OTHER BULK EXCIPIENTS FALL SHORT

galenIQ™ combines the benefits of other bulk excipients like mannitol, sorbitol, lactose or microcrystalline cellulose and even goes beyond with its technological and physiological properties:

  • Very low hygroscopic
  • Two different solubilities of galenIQ™ available
  • Excellent chemical stability, e.g. no reaction with amino groups
  • Very well compatible with active ingredients
  • Generally regarded as a non-toxic, non-allergic and non-irritant material

The direct compressible grades of galenIQ™ exhibit first-rate tableting properties due to their excellent compactability. Their outstanding binding properties resulting in a very high dilution potential make galenIQ™ an ideal excipient for the formulation of solid forms containing high amounts of active ingredients.

With a well-defined particle size distribution they provide outstanding flow and mixing properties, ensuring a high content uniformity even in low-dosage formulations. Tablets show a smooth surface and can easily be film-coated or pan-coated.

SUGAR FREE TABLET COATING

(Sugarfree) pan-coating can be realised with galenIQ™ to make tablets easier to swallow or to protect the active ingredients from moisture or light.

The main properties of direct compressible galenIQ™ in tableting are:

  • High agglomerate stability and excellent flow
  • Unique morphology of galenIQ™ ensures homogeneity of the mix and content uniformity
  • Very low compression forces required
  • Filler and binder function – high dilution potential
  • Addition of other binders is in general not required
  • Only standard amounts of lubricants required
  • Low Mg Stearate susceptibility
  • Low and high dosage formulations

Besides direct compressible grades, further particle engineering is leading to a product range that is tailor-made for specific solid-dosage forms like pellets, capsule fillings, granules, pan coatings, high-boiled lozenges and low boilings.

Physiologically, galenIQ™ shows a very low glycemic response, making it a highly suitable excipient in formulations for all patient target groups. Moreover, the outstanding organoleptic and non-cariogenic properties make it ideal for buccal applications, like chewable tablets or swallowable lozenges.

galenIQ™ is a white, odourless, water soluble, crystalline substance of non-animal origin, derived from sucrose. Chemically, galenIQ™ is isomalt, a disaccharide alcohol, which is widely used as a bulk sweetener in sugarfree confectionery and nutraceutical products since some 20 years. galenIQ™ complies with the isomalt monographs of the current Ph Eur, BP and USP-NF.

BENEO-Palatinit is a member of the International Pharmaceutical Excipients Council (IPEC) and produces galenIQ™ under GMP conditions for pharmaceutical excipients.
