Bonfiglioli Engineering understands the need of integrity packaging in the pharmaceutical industry especially with regulatory boards becoming more rigorous. That is why we strive to offer our customers, innovative leak testing machines that keep recalls at bay.
Companies such as Lab. Edol who purchased the PKV – 212 for plastic bottles for ophthalmic products have already benefited from this technology. Another Portuguese company invested in the PKA – 216 testing for liquid vials.
Leak testing is done either by:
- applying vacuum/pressure for testing filled and sealed containers
- head space pressure analysis by means of laser absorption for lyophilised vials
- rubber stopper displacement measurement for pre-filled syringes
The Bonfiglioli R&D team has come up with the idea of combining leak testing machines with visual inspection. Apart from leak testing containers of different shapes, sizes and material, this machine is equipped with cameras to perform particle, fill-level and cosmetic inspection. The end product is the combined machine, such as the PK-V-Vis Combi lately purchased by Labesfal (Fresenius Kabi Group).
The combi machines can reach outputs of 350cpm and vial size can range between 2 -100ml. The leak testing method is according to ASTM standards and is fully validated.
