Vardex Laser - Laser Etching for Security Marks and Codes

Vardex Laser is dedicated to providing the tools to combat the growing tide of criminal counterfeiting, by providing a complete suite of unique laser-based security and marking solutions.

The Variable Data Laser (VDL), is a compact, computer-controlled device that produces high and low-level security marks and codes. The VDL system uses pulsed laser light to produce unique security patterns etched onto a product. It is the world's leading TEA CO2 laser.

VDL LASER SECURITY-MARKING SYSTEM

The VDL is a compact, computer-controlled device that modifies a pulse of laser light to produce a unique security pattern that is etched into the product surface.

This pattern can consist of 2-D matrix, alpha-numeric and simple barcodes, and can be combined with various images such as logos and date / time production codes to form a compound codex.

LASER-ETCHED SECURITY CODES

The resulting codex provides a unique security code of unsurpassed strength and novel advantages. Using a 2-D matrix with a simple image pattern provides a high-density machine-readable code with a simple consumer-verifiable symbol on each product.

As the mark is made with laser light, the various mark components can be placed on different areas of the product: for example, a 2D matrix security code can be placed on one end of a capsule, and a simple image or alpha-numeric placed on the opposite dome. This provides an open area on the capsule body for standard regulatory product information.

SECURITY CODES FOR VARIOUS MATERIALS

By using different laser types, different material types can be marked. In addition to gelatin-based products, glass, plastic and metals can also be reliably marked with permanent security codes.

GUARANTEED SECURITY-MARK QUALITY

The VDL system uses a very short pulse of laser light similar to a strobe light used in photography. The light pulse is so fast that it 'freezes' the product. Variations in product speed or motion have no effect on the security mark quality; whether stopped or moving at high-speed, the mark is the same.

LASER MARKING RELIABILITY

Besides mark quality and consistency, VDL systems have excellent process reliability. The laser-based VDL process greatly reduces the mechanical positioning requirements of the product conveyance system. Normal mechanical wear of the transport equipment has no effect on the security mark quality.

PHARMACEUTICAL-APPROVED LASER CODING SYSTEMS

The marking process does not add any chemicals or change the chemical composition of the product. The primary laser systems used with the VDL system have been manufactured for almost 40 years and are currently used by major pharmaceutical manufacturers.

Coding speed varies according to the type of material being marked and the amount/ type of information applied to each piece. For simple codex, a single-unit VDL system can produce over 500,000 marks/hr or 12,000,000 marks/24hr period.

VDL SECURITY CODE ADVANTAGES
