Capsule-Filling Excipient with Disintegration Properties Unaffected by pH Developed by Colorcon

20 January 2006

With effect from 1 January 2006, Colorcon will introduce a new product to its Excipient business unit - STARCAP 1500™.

STARCAP 1500 is a co-processed mixture of globally accepted excipients, corn starch NF, JP, PhEur, 21 CFR 172.892 and pregelatinized starch NF, PhEur, JPE designed specifically for use in capsules. STARCAP 1500 is a free flowing, non-dusting excipient with disintegration properties that are unaffected by pH. These features can provide for less complex formulations and lower overall costs while maintaining consistent capsule production.

The addition of STARCAP 1500 to Colorcon's Excipients business unit, which includes Starch 1500® Partially Pregelatinized maize starch, now provides scientists additional flexibility when formulating both tablets and capsules.

Colorcon Technical Managers provide assistance to product teams to simplify formulation development and processes. This value-added service and expertise used in combination with exclusive, high quality pharmaceutical grade excipient products helps improve the performance and overall cost of solid oral dosage forms that are customized to meet client specifications.
