Unique Color Guide now Available for Tablet Formulators

28 June 2006

West Point, Pennsylvania, USA - A new one-of-a-kind  reference tool for pharmaceutical formulators, the Colorcon Color Guide, is now available. This easy-to-use guide was designed to help pharmaceutical product development teams select colors for their film-coated tablets containing pigments with the highest probability of regulatory acceptance in global or regional target markets.

The new guide features an expanded array of globally acceptable colors as well and a summary of the different types of pigments - lakes, synthetic iron oxides and natural colorants - commonly used in pharmaceutical film-coating formulas. Color options are organized according to color family for easy reference.

Added flexibility was built into the new guide to accommodate updates and changes implemented by the various global regulatory authorities through the use of color selector sheets. These unique selectors help pharmaceutical, technical and brand development teams confidently and accurately narrow color selections by regions.

A selector is provided for European Union (EU) countries and North America, commonly used for reference in Latin American countries as well, with a second selector which defines colors that can be used in the EU, North America and Japan. Once the user narrows their range of color options to their satisfaction, the resulting color selections can be verified through the Global Regulatory Affairs Department at Colorcon. This narrowing process enables customers to make informed choices before they commit their internal resources for coating trials in their labs.

Colorcon developed this color guide as part of its commitment to assist customers in making rapid and accurate color selections. The options presented in the color guide are just a small sample of the colors available in fully formulated film-coating systems. It is intended to be used as a tool to help customers expediently organize color groups, ultimately minimizing expense and increasing speed-to-market.

The guide is compact and easy to store, for ready reference. It is backed by the support of highly trained Colorcon technical and regulatory support staff, readily available to assist customers in their color selection process.
