Dishman - APIs, Intermediates and Quaternary Compounds DevelopmentBased in India and the UK, Dishman provides contract research and development on a global scale for the pharmaceuticals industry. Dishman manufactures Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) and intermediates on both a contract and custom basis for use in pharmaceutical and fine chemical products. Dishman has become one of the world's major suppliers of quaternary ammonium and quaternary phosphonium salts, as well as Asia's leading contract R&D and custom manufacturer for major multinational chemical and pharmaceutical companies. Some of the specialised services offered by Dishman include process development, API route optimisation and kilo synthesis. Dishman services its European and American clients via subsidiaries based in London and New Jersey and provides local technical / commercial support in Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Turkey. INTERMEDIATE AND API PRODUCTIONDishman has two production plants in the Ahmedabad region: Naroda and Bavla. Naroda specialises in quaternary compound production, whereas Bavla is a large campus-style facility that operates to cGMP guidelines. The Bavla site contains various units that provide contract manufacturing services for multinational clients, producing pharmaceutical intermediates, APIs and other fine and specialised chemicals. The first US FDA inspection at the Bavla facility is expected to take place in mid-2005. ACTIVE PHARMACEUTICAL INGREDIENTS SUPPORT Dishman can provide pharmaceutical intermediate technology to support the following APIs: alizapride, butethamate, cisapride, cisatracurium besylate, denatonium benzoate, ethylphenacemide, glibenclamide, lansoprazole and more. QUATERNARY COMPOUNDSDishman is now known as the "Quat company", as it has specialised for many years in manufacturing ammonium (AQs), phosphonium (PQs) and pyridinium (PyrQs) quaternary compounds. These substances can be used as phase transfer catalysts (AQs and PQs), biocides (AQs and PyrQs), active ingredients (PyrQs), specialised halogenation reagents (AQs and PQs), specialised intermediates (AQs), phosphoranes and Wittig reagents (PQs). Some of Dishman's best known products include:
Dishman also produces a range of ionic liquid products based on quaternary compounds. CONTRACT PHARMACEUTICAL RESEARCHIn April 2005, Dishman acquired Synprotec, a well-known Manchester-based contract research company, with global experience in projects involving pharmaceutical, agrochemical and many other fine and specialised chemical areas. The acquisition of Synprotec has augmented Dishman's expanding contract development expertise, which is now concentrated at our new R&D centre at the Bavla site in Gujarat, India. This centre includes a cGMP pilot facility and will employ more than 100 senior-level permanent chemists when it opens in mid-2005. Staff numbers will rise steadily in the following year, ensuring that Dishman remains one of the world's premier contract R&D and process development organisations. GRAMS TO MULTI-TONS SYNTHESIS Dishman will soon offer scale-up to a level of hundreds of tons per year of intermediates, fine, specialised chemicals and APIs. Dishman is prepared to undertake the full funding of new cGMP / US FDA-compliant facilities for clients where projects have an annual value of at least US $5 million and a three year minimum contract period.
