Senn Chemicals was founded in Dielsdorf (near Zurich), Switzerland in 1963 in order to satisfy a need for the manufacture of fine chemicals for university research. Senn Chemicals, while maintaining its capability for the manufacture of carbohydrates at the ton level, has evolved into a world leader for the production of amino acid derivatives and peptides. Senn Chemicals is now a leader in the manufacture of small peptides, under cGMP certification, for the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries.

During the early years, the company served as a research and development laboratory as well as a small-scale manufacturer, specializing in the extraction of natural products. The company grew and was incorporated in 1976 to become Senn Chemicals AG. The company expanded into carbohydrates and eventually into amino acid derivatives and peptides. In the last decade, subsidiaries have been established in France and in the USA.
