Perlen Converting - PVdC Coated Blister Films

The competence and know-how of Perlen Converting AG lies in the coating of films. For many years now, we have concentrated on the production and distribution of high-barrier films and pharmaceutical films for the pharmaceutical industry and siliconised films and coated films for demanding medical applications.

Our main business is PVdC coated blister films for the pharmaceutical industry. At the end of the 1960s, Perlen was a pioneer in this sector and has continually strengthened its position as a premier supplier of PVdC-barrier pharmaceutical film through constant innovation. Under the brand name PERLALUX®, we supply the pharmaceutical industry with a wide range of blister films from PVC mono film to high-barrier films with 120gsm PVdC coatings.

ANTI-COUNTERFEIT, THERMO-FORMABLE PACKAGING

For the first time a thermo-formable film is being used for the anti-counterfeit packaging of drugs.

PHARMACEUTICAL FILM WITH OPTICAL SECURITY FEATURES

Our newly developed pharmaceutical film, PERLALUX®-Identity, offers effective protection against the imitation and manipulation of packaged drugs.

An optical strip with security elements is integrated in this high-barrier film and precisely placed between the cavities. The film properties and the packaging process are unaffected. The excellent barrier and the composition of the drug contact layer remains unchanged.

Protection against the counterfeiting and manipulation of drugs is becoming more important for many producers. By using specially designed packaging materials, imitation of pharma products can be made so difficult, expensive and complicated that it is no longer worthwhile.

The security elements employed should be as close as possible to the packed product. For the patient, there should be absolutely no change to the usual characteristics of the blister pack.

PACKAGING FOR LIQUID PHARMACEUTICALS

PERLALUX®-Liquid is converted into thermoform-fill-seal plastic containers, used to package liquids. An excellent thermoformability ensures good processability. A perfect sealing is guaranteed by the use of the right choice of PE layer.

The product's security is enhanced with an ultra high UV light protection film, USP24. Beside our multilayer barrier film PVC/PVDC/PE, various structures and thickness are available to meet the different barrier requirements.

HIGH-BARRIER FILM FOR SUPPOSITORY PACKAGING

PERLALUX®-Suppo is used for the packaging of suppositories. It is a thermoformable film with good processability. Various structures and thickness are available to meet the different barrier requirements.

Perfect sealing and a peelable opening is guaranteed through the use of the perfect PE layer. This barrier film is available in a white opaque colour, printed or unprinted.

BLISTER FILM WITH A PVDC COATING

PERLALUX®-Starflex replaced the traditional PE-laminate used for Triplex grades with a thermo-elast (TE) coating. Perlen was able to produce, for the first time, a 120g/m² PVdC coating that has a multitude of benefits.

With PERLALUX®-Starflex the potential disadvantages of laminates used under tropical conditions can be eliminated, thus it offers the higher product security and improved productivity.

Beside high water vapour barrier values and a high oxygen barrier given by the 120g/m² PVdC coating, our multi layer coating technology PERLALUX®-Starflex offers a better cost-performance ratio compared to other pharmaceutical high barrier blister films.

PERLEN CONVERTING LLC IN THE USA

As an important path to the realisation of our global supply strategy we have founded a subsidiary company in the USA, Perlen Converting LLC. The company is located in Whippany, New Jersey, in the heart of the American pharmaceutical industry. Perlen Converting LLC is managed by Mr Douglas R. Voreis with his sales and technical team. Our first intention is to establish a slit- and logistic centre by the end of 2005 to ensure the required delivery flexibility for the market.
