PlasmidSelect Xtra Platform For Plasmid Purification Accelerates Vaccine Development And Production

31 August 2006

GE Healthcare has announced today the launch of PlasmidSelect Xtra, a second-generation plasmid purification platform that offers improved yield and capacity, optimizing plasmid purity for vaccine production and enabling more rapid product development and a shorter time to market.

Purified plasmid DNA is required in increasingly larger quantities to meet emerging requirements for gene therapy and DNA vaccination. Processes developed to purify plasmid DNA at industrial scale must be flexible, easily scalable, robust, and economical.

PlasmidSelect Xtra chromatography medium forms the basis of a generic process for purifying supercoiled (sc) covalently-closed circular plasmid DNA, delivering consistent results from research to cGMP manufacturing. PlasmidSelect Xtra starter kit allows for convenient process development, with media in pre-packed columns for each of the three chromatography steps. The PlasmidSelect Xtra Screening Kit enables quick and easy analysis of plasmid DNA quantity and quality.

"GE Healthcare customers know from experience with our other high quality products that the Bioprocess media contained in the PlasmidSelect Xtra platform will yield reliable and scalable results from early research to full-scale manufacturing, with optimal regulatory support and supply security", says Torgny Lindback, head of marketing, Bioprocess at GE Healthcare. "The PlasmidSelect Xtra platform produces purified supercoiled plasmid DNA of high quality in quantities that will help our customers during DNA vaccine and gene therapy product development."
