Brexit Implications for the UK Pharmaceutical Industry
One thing that is certain following the UK’s momentous decision to leave the EU, called Brexit, is that the pharmaceutical industry is facing at least two years of unprecedented uncertainty.
One theoretical possibility is that the UK will seek to join Norway, Lichtenstein and Iceland in the European Economic Area (EEA). If this were to happen, then little would change in practical terms for medical products. However, politically, it would appear unlikely that the UK will seek to join the EEA.
If the UK does not join the EEA, it will become a third country, as far as the EU is concerned, which will lead to more profound changes.
