Emulsions - Established and Promising Drug Carriers for Parenteral Application

15 October 2009 by Fresenius Kabi Product Partnering

The past decade has seen enormous activity in research on drug delivery and targeting using emulsions. Emulsions are now not only well established as drug delivery systems of poorly water-soluble drugs, but are also used increasingly as a means of controlling the drugs' kinetics and distribution in vivo. By enabling more selective delivery to particular organs or tissues, emulsions are promising to improve the therapeutic index of drugs. Both increases in efficacy and reductions of toxicity are possible.
