The Covid-19 death toll has increased to more than 4,200, with around 3,158 deaths in mainland China, as of the end of 11 March.

Globally, the total confirmed cases surged to more than 119,000, while recoveries have increased to approximately 65,700.   

On 10 March, mainland China reported 24 new cases and 22 deaths. This is an increase of 19 new cases from the previous day. Of the new infections, ten were imported cases, noted Reuters.

Beijing, the capital of China, registered six new cases on 10 March in people who returned from Italy and the US, while two imported cases were reported in Shanghai.

However, the trend in the number of newer infections across China continues to decline. A few cities in Hubei also started to lift certain restrictions on people and goods.

To date, 24 municipalities, regions and provinces in the country lowered their emergency response from their previous highest.

The total number of recoveries in mainland China reached 61,475, including 49,056 in Hubei province.

Global Covid-19 cases continue to surge

South Korea reports 242 Covid-19 cases

The KCDC has reported 242 additional cases in South Korea, taking the count to 7,755. The total number of deaths also increased to 60, with six new deaths reported this morning.

Covid-19 death toll in Italy increases by 36%

With 168 new deaths, the death toll in Italy has increased to 631, representing a 36% increase, according to the Civil Protection Agency. The total number of confirmed cases increased from 9,172 to 10,149.

Europe  to take unified approach against the outbreak

European countries are set to work together to tackle the rapidly spreading outbreak in the continent. European Union leaders held a video conference to discuss the crisis.

After the conference, European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen said: “We will use all the tools at our disposal to make sure that the European economy weathers this storm.”

Bolivia, Turkey, Jamaica and Congo report first cases

Bolivia Health Minister Anibal Cruz confirmed the country’s first two Covid-19 cases, while Turkey reported its first case as a male citizen who returned from Europe.

Jamaica’s first case is a female with a travel history to the UK and the Democratic Republic of Congo reported its first positive case of coronavirus in a person who returned from France.

Australia cases rise to 133

The number of cases in Australia has increased to 133, including three new cases of women who visited Europe. The country announced an A$2.4bn ($1.56bn) health package to help fight the coronavirus outbreak.

Cases in India reach 62

With new cases reported in the late night of 10 March from Kerala, Karnataka, Jammu & Kashmir, the total in India increased to 62.

Of the 18 new cases reported on 10 March, eight are from Kerala, five from Maharashtra, four in Karnataka and one in Jammu & Kashmir.

UK Health Minister tests positive

UK Health Minister Nadine Dorries has tested positive for Covid-19 and is currently under self-isolation at home.

The country also confirmed its sixth death – a man in his 80s with other health conditions. The total confirmed cases in the UK stand at 373.

Panama confirms first death

Panama reported the first Covid-19 death and confirmed seven new cases, only a day after the country reported its first case.
