GlobalData Epidemiologist Report: Covid infections force suspension of cricket’s Indian Premier League

Globally, the total confirmed cases of Covid-19 have reached over 153,632,000, with more than 3,215,000 deaths and 102,843,000 recoveries.

China and the US continue to lead the world in the number of Covid-19 vaccine doses administered.

Overall, daily confirmed cases in the US have continued to trend downward in recent weeks.

Despite India being third in the world for total vaccine doses administered, daily confirmed cases and deaths there continue to be at some of the highest levels since the start of the pandemic.

An increase in Covid infections within participating teams has caused the Indian Premier League cricket tournament to be suspended.

Unlike most of its European neighbors, Greece is reopening to tourists; this is despite a resurgence of cases recorded this past month and upward trends in daily confirmed deaths.

Even more concerning, is that just under 10% of the country is fully vaccinated.

Croatia and Cyprus are also prematurely easing border restrictions ahead of the broader EU reopening timeline.
