GlobalData Epidemiologist Report: Rapid Covid case rise in Iran as global infections pass 150 million

By Paul Dennis

30 April

Globally, the total confirmed cases of Covid-19 have reached over 150,630,000, with more than 3,168,000 deaths and over 100,100,000 recoveries.

Uruguay, Costa Rica, and Lithuania reported the highest rates of daily new confirmed cases with 902, 695, and 687 cases per million population, respectively.

India recorded over 300,000 new confirmed cases every day this week, and accounts for more than half of new confirmed cases globally on the 30th.

Iran is developing what looks like its worst wave of the Covid-19 pandemic yet, the country’s total confirmed cases has been on a steep increase since early March 2021.

The country reported its record number of Covid-19 deaths on the 27th, partially due to the delayed response of the government’s lockdown measures in major cities.

Only 0.8% of Iran’s total population have been vaccinated to date, amidst fears of fourth wave of Covid-19 infections.
