Bayer donates millions of chloroquine tablets: are they useful?

Remdesivir is only approved for Covid-19 in Japan, as well as across the US for compassionate use. Therefore, many countries are looking to off-label drugs such as chloroquine, as well as its derivative hydroxychloroquine, to help mitigate Covid-19.

At present, 27 generic drugs of chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine are prescribed for off-label usage by the regulatory authorities in geographies such as the US, EU, and New Zealand. As a result, Bayer has donated millions of chloroquine tablets to national health authorities around the world in anticipation of their potential usage. Read more here.
