The Technology Strategy Board, in collaboration with the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, is set to invest up to £9m to support collaborative research projects focused on nanoscale technology-enabled solutions for the healthcare sector.

The competition supports applications for business-led projects concentrating on the targeted delivery of therapeutic agents and diagnostics.

The goal of the collaboration is to help meet the urgent and difficult challenges posed within the worldwide healthcare sector by translating early-stage ideas from academia and commercialising them by building supply chains with innovative businesses.

The Technology Strategy Board will invest up to £3m to support involvement by businesses while EPSRC will invest up to £6m to support participation by academic institutions.

The Nanoscale Technology Enabled Healthcare competition opens on 1 November 2011 and applications must be received by 13 December 2011.
