GlaxoSmithKline's president of North America Pharmaceuticals Deirdre Connelly has been named 2010 Woman of the Year by the Healthcare Businesswomen's Association (HBA).

The 2010 HBA nominating committee overwhelmingly voted in Connelly's favour based on her achievement in criteria including success in the healthcare industry, strong leadership capabilities, proven mentoring skills, dedication, a commitment to giving back to women and contributions to the community.

Deirdre Connelly joined GlaxoSmithKline in February 2009. The company employs approximately 10,000 staff and records over $14bn in sales.

Connelly will be honoured at the HBA's 21st annual Woman of the Year Luncheon on Thursday 6 May at the Hilton New York.
