By Paul Dennis

16 April

Globally, the total confirmed cases of Covid-19 have reached over 139,120,000, with over 2,985,000 deaths and over 91,700,000 recoveries.

The US, India and Brazil remain the top three ranked countries most affected by the pandemic.

Brazil leads in case fatality rate with a rate of 2.6% followed by the US and India with rates of 1.7% and 1.2% respectively.

The US recorded its lowest total new deaths since the start of the pandemic with 49 new fatalities.

India and Brazil, however, have recorded over 1,100 and 3,500, total new deaths respectively.

A recent surge in Covid-19 cases in Thailand drew emergency responses from the Government.

The country which mostly observed under 300 daily confirmed cases in recent months, now reported its fifth record tally of Covid-19 cases this week.

Meanwhile, authorities are building field hospitals to cope with an influx of patients with up to 20,000 beds spread throughout the country.

The outbreak is likely due to mass travelling during the country’s Songkran new year holidays.
