Globally, the total confirmed cases of Covid-19 have reached over 192,729,000, with more than 4,138,000 deaths and over 139,249,000 recoveries reported.
Brazil, India, and Mexico lead all countries in new confirmed cases with over 49,000, 35,000, and 14,000 cases reported, respectively.
The US has reported the highest total number of confirmed cases, at over 34 million, and currently has a seven-day average of over 39,000 cases.
Louisiana, Arkansas, and Florida are the states with the highest case numbers reported by population, with 47, 43, and 41 per 100,000, respectively.
Meanwhile, Florida is reporting approximately 34 daily deaths, on average, the highest number among all states.
The uptick in cases in Florida is likely due to several factors, such as the circulation of the more infectious Delta variant (in the two weeks leading up to 17 July, the Delta variant accounted for over 80% of new cases in the US), high heat leading people to stay indoors, and unvaccinated people not wearing masks.
Restrictions in Australian states such as New South Wales are being tightened due to the current rise in cases. Some 162 daily cases were reported across the whole country.
New Zealand has expanded the closure of the quarantine-free travel bubble with Australia to apply to the whole country, for eight weeks.
Rising cases in Malaysia, have led to further travel restrictions with the Philippines.
The UK has fully vaccinated approximately 53.5% of its population.
The US has fully vaccinated 49.5% of its population and Germany and Italy 48.1% and 45.8% of the population, respectively.
