French pharmaceuticals company Sanofi-Aventis has announced that it will donate 100 million H1N1 flu vaccine doses to the World Health Organisation (WHO) to help poor countries handle the pandemic.

Sanofi-Aventis CEO Chris Viehbacher said in a company statement that they would play their part during these exceptional circumstances.

“Exceptional times require exceptional responses,” Viehbacher said.

The CEO also said that becoming a global healthcare leader, not just focused on the US and Europe is the heart of the Sanofi-Aventis strategy.

“The future of our industry is linked to the healthcare solutions that will be found for emerging countries,” he added.

The announcement was made at the Pacific Health Summit in Seattle.
