Hungary has declared H1N1 influenza a national epidemic with more than 22,000 swine flu cases reported in the country last week, a 30% increase compared to the previous week.
Tests performed on a sample of suspects last week revealed that almost one in three cases involved the new A/H1N1 swine flu virus, according to DPA News Agency.
The government will now set up 200 inoculation centres across the country in an effort to improve access to the H1N1 vaccine, sources said.
A voluntary H1N1 vaccination campaign launched by the government in October has so far covered 11% of the population, according to the Ministry of Health.
According to the National Centre for Epidemiology, a national epidemic is declared when more than 20,000 cases are reported in a week.
