China-based probiotics developer China-Biotics has commenced commercial production at its new state-of-the-art bulk additive production facility in Shanghai.
The new facility in Shanghai Qingpu Industrial Park features a fermentation workshop equipped with a sophisticated control system and customised design for its proprietary fermentation technology. It has a total production capacity of 150t annually.

China-Biotics began the construction of this facility in late 2007 with testing and trial production starting in October 2009.
The company expects to produce 5t by the end of March and the capacity utilisation is expected to gradually reach a run rate of 75t per year by December 2010.
Jinan Song, chairman and CEO of China-Biotics, said: “We are very excited about the commencement of our Qingpu facility, with the advanced technology in probiotics production and large capacity.
“Our volume and quality can meet the demand from large institutional customers from both China and overseas markets. We believe the Qingpu facility will provide an additional engine of growth, beyond our widely acclaimed dietary supplement produced in our existing Pudong plant.”
