Mylan subsidiary Matrix Laboratories Limited has received final approval from the US Food and Drug Administration for Simvastatin tablets, the generic version of Merck & Co’s Zocor for high cholesterol.

The approval for the abbreviated new drug application includes tablets in 5mg, 10mg, 20mg, 40mg and 80mg form.

The product will be distributed by Mylan Pharmaceuticals.

Simvastatin tablets had US sales of approximately $361m for the 12 months ending 31 March 2010.
