Four people have died and 17 more have been injured after a fire broke out at Dashmesh Medicare’s manufacturing plant in Jaula Kalan, Lalru, India.
Investigations into the cause of the fire are underway, but police confirmed that it started due to a blast inside a chemical reactor used to mix chemicals for the manufacture of drugs.
Eye witnesses confirmed the fire spread across the factory quickly, gutting the entire machinery and manufacturing unit.
Company officials have said that while the exact cause of the fire has not yet been ascertained, the results of an initial investigation suggest that a static charge resulted in the fire.
Mohali senior superintendent of police GPS Bhullar told Indian Express that a case for causing death due to negligence and violating safety conditions has also been filed against the company.
"We have registered a case against the company officials. We have constituted a special investigating team to prove the matter. A team of forensic experts has also been called from Chandigarh to determine the exact cause of the fire," added Bhullar.
