The activity of this receptor is mediated by G(q) proteins which activates a phosphatidylinositol-calcium second messenger system that raises cellular cytosolic calcium levels, thereby regulating calcium-sensitive cell signal pathways that promote the activation of certain protein kinase C isoforms.
