Although hospitals are traditionally seen as places of care, a number of recent safety incidents involving hospital staff and the continued violence and aggression in emergency departments and Mental Health Units highlight the essential need of managing challenging behaviours in these centres of care. With policy focusing promoting a culture of risk assessment and violence prevention, hospitals need to know the appropriate training and strategies to recognise and deal with threatening situations.

Now in its 8th year, the conference allows for a unique gathering of security, clinical, police, legal and ambulatory representatives to work towards the common goal of making hospitals a safer place for staff, patients and visitors. Highlighting the collaboration needed for a safer hospital environment, the conference will form a national account of how to best manage violence & aggression within a hospital environment, allowing for open discussion around the role the security officer and the clinician in de-escalating aggressive situations.
