Amgen is set to invest more than $600m to construct a new centre for science and innovation in its US worldwide headquarters situated in Thousand Oaks, California.

The initiative aims to foster a collaborative environment by uniting engineers, scientists and researchers from a range of disciplines.

The hub will expedite new therapeutic discoveries to address the most severe diseases.

It will incorporate automation and digital tools, equipping scientists to propel scientific breakthroughs and further the field of biotechnology.

The new centre is poised to augment Amgen's network of facilities globally, drawing on operational know-how and technological progress.

Construction will commence in the third quarter of 2025 and create hundreds of jobs in the US.

The company's pledge to fuel innovation and operations is evident in its investment of $40bn into manufacturing and research and development since the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) was implemented in 2017.

Post-TCJA, Amgen has directed more than $5bn into direct capital expenditures.

The tax policies introduced by the TCJA and subsequently by the One Big Beautiful Bill Act of 2025 have been instrumental in enabling Amgen to boost its domestic investments in scientific research and manufacturing capabilities.

This latest announcement follows other significant investments by Amgen, including the $900m expansion of its manufacturing site in Central Ohio and a $1bn commitment to construct a second manufacturing facility in Holly Springs, North Carolina.

In January 2025, the company received US Food and Drug Administration approval for its Lumakras and Vectibix combination therapy to treat adults with KRAS G12C-mutated metastatic colorectal cancer.
