The primary advantage of magnetic agitators is the complete separation of the interior of the tank from the outside.

In contrast to conventional agitators, there is no shaft penetrating the tank and therefore no mechanical seal.

This eliminates the risks of leaks and microbial contamination and the need for special maintenance.

Features and services

The services ZETA provides include design calculations for the specific process as well as CFD simulations for critical mixing applications. In ZETA’s own research centre mixing tests for customer-specific applications are carried out.

ZETA’s unique solutions:

  • Sealless design: Mag drive to replace shaft-driven systems with mechanical seals
  • Open design (large gap between rotor and drive shell)
  • Flexibility: Drive shell construction (weld-in or plug-in variants)
  • Simple retrofitting of agitators with mechanical seals to magnetic agitators

Wide product range – Agitators for special applications

ZETA offers a wide variety of bottom-mounted and top-mounted magnetic agitators.

In addition to the standard range of agitators, ZETA offers customised versions. Features such as the dimensions of the impeller, rotational speed or the type of impeller can be fully customised.

Top-Mounted Agitators (AMR)

ZETA’s top-mounted agitator features an integrated drive shell vent. Although it avoids the disadvantages of agitators with mechanical seals, this agitator has a similar configuration so that almost any shape of mixing impeller can be used.

Bottom-Mounted Agitators (BMRT)

The ZETA Impeller is the first choice for even distribution of temperature and concentration gradients in aqueous solutions.

It is characterised by the fact that it draws in the liquid from above and drives it outwards in a predominantly radial pattern. Using an off-centre installation, it produces a vortex that facilitates the mixing of soluble and insoluble solids into the liquid, without the need to install baffles. The drive shell of a ZETA magnetic agitator forms part of the weld plate and thereby guarantees the absolute hermetic separation of the inside of the vessel from the outside.

To help protect sterility, the gap between the impeller and the drive shell is as big as possible, up to 7 mm. The open design allows problem-free CIP and SIP of the agitator.

Bottom-Mounted Agitators for XXL fermenters (BMRF)

ZETA’s bottom-mounted magnetic agitator system for fermenters on an industrial scale (BMRF XXL) has been in successful use for many years. ZETA used a powerful magnetic coupling (700 Nm) to develop an agitator type that can be used in cell culture volumes of up to 30,000 L.

Container Magnetic Agitators (CMRT)

The advantage of ZETA’s Container Magnetic Agitators is that there is no connection between the aseptic space inside the reusable container and the outside. The power transmission to the agitator rotor is carried out by a friction-free magnetic drive, which excludes possibility of contamination of the product.

Advantages:

  • Maintaining homogeneous mixing in the container during draining or from beginning to end of the filling process.
  • Homogeneous filling of clean label products without stabilisers or emulsifiers
  • Hygienic design enables easy cleaning and sterilisation
  • High process reliability in aseptic operations
  • Reduction of storage costs (containers are stackable with agitator rotor inside)
