The global pharma industry noticed a 6.1% rise in IT hiring activity in April 2021 over the previous month, led by HCA Healthcare’s 5.47% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.

The pharma industry’s overall hiring activity an increased 0.26% when compared with March 2021.

Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 1.85% share of the global pharma industry’s hiring activity in April 2021, up 0.12% over the last three-month average share.

According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of April 2021 were 3.76% higher compared with the previous month.

The increase was a result of 6.26% lower job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers drive pharma IT hiring activity

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 47.61% emerged as the top IT occupation in the pharma hiring activity in April 2021, a 4.97% an increase over the previous month. Miscellaneous Computer Occupations came in second with a share of 14.2% in April 2021, down 1.29% over the previous month.

The other prominent IT roles include Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a 12.55% share in April 2021, decline of 1.46% over the previous month, and Computer and Information Analysts with a 10.24% share in April 2021 and rise of 2.66% over March 2021.

Top five pharma companies by recruitment activity in April 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average an increase of 130.61% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global pharma industry during April 2021 over March 2021.

HCA Healthcare posted 206 IT jobs in April 2021 and registered a rise of 79.13% over the previous month, followed by CompuGroup Medical SE & Co. with 189 jobs and a 372.5% rise. Takeda Pharmaceutical with 175 IT jobs and WellSky with 99 jobs, recorded a 430.3% an increase and a 167.57% growth, respectively, while F. Hoffmann-La Roche recorded a 12.38% drop with 92 job postings during April 2021.

Regional composition of IT hiring in pharma industry

North America emerged as the leading region in the global pharma IT hiring activity in April 2021 with a 67.83% share, which marked a 4.97% growth over the previous month.

Europe stood next with 19.16%, registering a 37.79% month-on-month an increase.Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with an 11.23% share and a 14.55% decline over March 2021.

In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 0.93% and a month-on-month drop of 23.91%. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.85%, registering a 21.95% drop over the previous month.
