The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is set to form new alliances to accelerate the development of medical countermeasures for the new coronavirus that emerged in Wuhan, China last month.

The regulator will work with interagency and international partners, product developers and global regulators. The focus is to develop and make available medical products to treat, mitigate, prevent and diagnose such outbreaks.

FDA is sharing process updates to aid developers and issuing important information for the public to help in the development of medical products.

The coronavirus currently lacks diagnostics and the FDA is collaborating with public health partners to advance and share reference materials for diagnostic development.
