GlobalData conducted a survey on industry professionals to identify the technologies that are expected to have the most disruptive power in the sector in the upcoming two years.
An analysis of the survey results reveals that AI led the list with 58% of the professionals believing it to have the capability of disrupting and transforming the pharmaceutical industry.
It was followed by big data, which garnered 46% responses.
APIs and digital platforms, Real World Evidence (RWE) and wearable technology were the next three emerging technologies in the list with 29%, 27% and 22% votes, respectively.
Around 21% of the respondents expect social media will have the most disruptive impact on the sector, while another 13% opined cloud computing.

Around 7% of the surveyed professionals opined that augmented reality may have a disruptive impact on the pharmaceutical industry.
Blockchain and 5G followed it with 6% and 5% votes.
Other emerging technologies such as virtual reality, quantum computing and robotics received 4% responses each.
