Digital transformation has been one of the key strategic initiatives being undertaken by the pharmaceutical industry in recent years. The shift towards digital transformation has gained more importance following the COVID-19 pandemic.

GlobalData has conducted a survey to assess whether pharmaceutical companies are actively pursuing a formalised digital transformation strategy as per senior executives and other staff members.

Assessment of the survey responses indicates that a majority of the pharmaceutical companies have a digital transformation strategy in place. Further, the misalignment between senior executives and other staff regarding the implementation of digital transformation strategy decreased in 2020 compared to the previous years, indicating an increase in engagement across all levels of the organisation.Digital Transformation Strategies

Approximately 35% of the senior executives said that they have an enterprise-wide digital strategy, while 21% of other staff shared the same opinion.

The percentage of senior executives and other staff stating that they have a digital strategy within their business lines was 22% and 19%, respectively.

Further, 30% of the respondents from both the groups said that their companies are working on a strategy, while just 9% of senior executives and 8% of other staff voted that they are not working towards one.

The analysis is based on responses received from the Digital Transformation and Emerging Technology in the Healthcare Industry, 2020 survey fielded from 17 September to 06 October 2020.
