Utilisation of RWE can help in managing COVID-19 outbreak: Poll

With COVID-19 pandemic continuing unabated, the opinion of using Real World Evidence (RWE) to control infectious diseases has further gained traction.

In a poll conducted by GlobalData, more than 35% of respondents said that RWE will play a major role in managing the pandemic.

RWE involves leveraging real world data and simulations to gain new insights and better prepare for challenges presented by the pandemic.

Previously during the Ebola crisis in 2014, forecasters used real world data population data and stochastic models of disease transmission to predict the spread of the disease using GLEaM simulations.

Around 28% of the respondents in the GlobalData poll indicated that telemedicine may have a major impact in controlling the COVID-19 pandemic.

Other emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Robotics and 3D Printing received 20%, 9% and 8% responses, respectively.
