US drug pricing: could the industry regulate itself?

Pharmaceutical price hikes are nothing new, but increased criticism from the public and politicians does seem to have instilled a new sense of social responsibility, at least for some companies. A 10% self-imposed drug cap initiated by Allergan and supported by several other big companies, including Teva and Insys, does seem to be holding up. Could industry self-regulation play a larger role in US drug pricing in the future, or is it all smoke and mirrors?
