The global pharma industry noticed a 4.0% drop in IT hiring activity in May 2022 over the previous month, led by Evolent Health’s 15.77% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.

The pharma industry’s overall hiring activity declined 2.7% when compared with April 2022.

Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 1.54% share of the global pharma industry’s hiring activity in May 2022, down 0.02% over the last three-month average share.

According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of May 2022 were 8.13% lower when compared with the previous month.

The decrease was a result of 18.07% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers drive pharma IT hiring activity

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 45.67% emerged as the top IT occupation in the pharma hiring activity in May 2022, a 1.18% growth over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in second with a share of 15.98% in May 2022, down 16.82% over the previous month.

The other prominent IT roles include Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a 15.2% share in May 2022, a growth of 25.51% over the previous month, and Computer and Information Analysts with a 12.96% share in May 2022 and a drop of 37.93% over April 2022.

Top five pharma companies by recruitment activity in May 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 76.07% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global pharma industry during May 2022 over April 2022.

Evolent Health posted 444 IT jobs in May 2022 and registered a rise of 150.85% over the previous month, followed by CVS Health with 124 jobs and an 11.71% growth. AstraZeneca with 110 IT jobs and The Hastings Center with 92 jobs, recorded a 0.9% decline and a 48.39% rise, respectively, while Bausch Health Companies recorded a 225% rise with 91 job postings during May 2022.

Regional composition of IT hiring in pharma industry

North America emerged as the leading region in the global pharma IT hiring activity in May 2022 with a 73.86% share, which marked a 5.02% drop over the previous month.

Europe stood next with 14.03%, registering a 19.55% month-on-month decline. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 10.44% share and a 9.82% drop over April 2022.

In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 1.07% and a month-on-month rise of 3.45%. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.6%, registering a 70% increase over the previous month.
