The global pharma industry noticed a 0.1% rise in IT hiring activity in October 2021 over the previous month, led by Bausch Health Companies 6.4% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The pharma industry’s overall hiring activity declined 2.03% when compared with September 2021.

Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 1.9% share of the global pharma industry’s hiring activity in October 2021, up 0.04% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of October 2021 were 2.52% lower when compared with the previous month.
The decrease was a result of 4.68% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 46.89% emerged as the top IT occupation in the pharma hiring activity in October 2021, a 5.67% decline over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in second with a share of 14.67% in October 2021, up 20.46% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a 13.97% share in October 2021, a growth of 1.35% over the previous month, and Computer and Information Analysts with a 12.64% share in October 2021 and a rise of 7.31% over September 2021.
Top five pharma companies by recruitment activity in October 2021
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 15.75% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global pharma industry during October 2021 over September 2021.
Bausch Health Companies posted 275 IT jobs in October 2021 and registered a rise of 19.57% over the previous month, followed by HCA Healthcare with 262 jobs and a 3.68% decline. CVS Health with 188 IT jobs and F. Hoffmann-La Roche with 162 jobs, recorded a 3.09% decline and a 22.73% rise, respectively, while AstraZeneca recorded an 185.71% rise with 120 job postings during October 2021.
Regional composition of IT hiring in pharma industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global pharma IT hiring activity in October 2021 with a 76.51% share, which marked a 1.29% drop over the previous month.
Europe stood next with 12.97%, registering an 11.18% month-on-month growth. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 9.01% share and a 14.76% drop over September 2021.
In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 1.02% and a month-on-month rise of 33.33%. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.44%, registering an 11.76% increase over the previous month.
