Under the contract, the company will deliver scheduled shipments of MVA-BN across the term. The agreement also includes optional flexibility provisions, though further details were not disclosed.

MVA-BN is said to be the only non-replicating mpox vaccine that secured approval in the US, Singapore, Switzerland, Mexico, the EU/EEA, Canada and the UK. It is marketed under different brand names depending on the jurisdiction: Jynneos in the US and Mexico, Imvamune in Canada, and Imvanex in the EU/EEA and UK.

The vaccine was originally developed in collaboration with the US Government as a smallpox vaccine intended for the entire population, including those who are immunocompromised and not recommended for traditional replicating smallpox vaccines.

It is indicated for use in the general population from the age of two years in those considered at risk of smallpox or mpox infection.

Bavarian Nordic public preparedness senior vice-president Hitesh Sahni said: “Maintaining sustainable vaccine stockpiles and rapid response capabilities are essential to protecting public health and saving lives, and we are proud that our vaccine remains an important component of the UK’s resilience strategy.”

The latest contract builds on previous vaccine procurements by the UK Government and extends an existing relationship between Bavarian Nordic and UK authorities.

Earlier purchases were aimed at strengthening national preparedness while ensuring vaccine availability for eligible people and outbreak response.

Bavarian Nordic said the deal supports the long-term readiness of the UK against emerging threats of infectious diseases. Governments and public health bodies have continued to prioritise access to vaccines that can be rapidly deployed to address changing epidemiological conditions.

In March 2026, Bavarian Nordic signed a manufacturing agreement with Serum Institute of India, expanding its strategic partnership through a contract for its chikungunya vaccine (CHIKV VLP).
