ABEC is set to open a new manufacturing facility in Wilson, North Carolina, US, expanding its network for biopharmaceutical process equipment and consumables.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the opening is scheduled for 24 September, with company leadership, employees, partners and community leaders expected to attend.

According to ABEC, the site will produce bioprocess equipment and consumable products that are used in developing and manufacturing biologics, vaccines, and related advanced medicines.

The new plant complements ABEC’s existing operations in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania; Springfield, Missouri; US, and Fermoy and Kells in Ireland.

ABEC CEO Scott Pickering said: “Opening our Wilson facility represents another important milestone in ABEC's commitment to supporting the global biopharmaceutical industry.

“This investment expands our manufacturing capabilities, brings us closer to customers in the southeastern US, and reinforces our ability to deliver the industry's most comprehensive portfolio of bioprocess equipment, consumables, and engineering solutions.

“We are proud to become part of the Wilson community and look forward to building long-term partnerships throughout the region.”

The company indicated that the choice of Wilson was influenced by the area’s role as one of the country’s fastest-growing regions for life sciences. The new plant is expected to create additional manufacturing and technical jobs in eastern North Carolina.

The upcoming opening event will also include tours of the facility and recognise the collaboration between employees, contractors, community partners, and local authorities who supported the project.

ABEC provides engineered process solutions and services for biotechnology manufacturing. Its activities include process development, facility design, equipment manufacturing, installation and support services.
