Annabel Kartal Allen Robert Barrie Frankie Fattorini July 02 2026

June was a busy month for Pharmaceutical Technology’s editorial team, with journalists attending several key conferences with reach across the healthcare and life science sectors.

This includes the BIO International Convention (BIO 2026) in San Diego, California, which brought together pharmaceutical and biotechnology professionals to discuss the key themes impacting the US sector, as well as the 2026 HLTH Europe conference in Amsterdam, which united healthcare policymakers, insurers, startups and industry members under one roof to talk over the biggest challenges and opportunities in Europe.

In this episode of the GlobalData Healthcare podcast, Pharmaceutical Technology reporters Annabel Kartal-Allen and Frankie Fattorini sit down with Pharmaceutical Technology’s editor, Robert Barrie, to speak about their experiences at these conferences.

Fattorini shares details on his experience at BIO 2026, which ran from 22-25 June, while Kartal-Allen discusses her time at HLTH Europe 2026, a conference held between 15-18 June.

Together, they compare and contrast the discourse around key talking points within the pharma industry, including the cataclysmic rise of artificial intelligence (AI), the healthcare implementation gap, the future role of obesity drugs and technologies in treatment, and the growing role of real-world evidence as an essential value creation tool for drugmakers.

Listen at the link below, and leave a comment about the key themes you noticed at either conference.
