Zuellig Pharma, a healthcare solutions provider headquartered in Singapore, inaugurated its advanced Clinical Trial Support (CTS) Innovation Centre in South Korea in December 2025.

The new facility is designed to serve as an automated hub for clinical logistics and sourcing, further strengthening South Korea’s role in clinical research innovation.

The centre is part of Zuellig Pharma’s ongoing investment in healthcare aimed at bolstering its role as a regional partner supporting patients, partners and communities.

It enables the company to control clinical trial supplies more precisely and efficiently, ensuring they reach patients more quickly and dependably.

Location of the CTS facility

The CTS Innovation Centre is strategically situated near the Gyeongbu Expressway in Gyeonggi-do province, South Korea.

Zuellig Pharma CTS Innovation Centre details

Zuellig Pharma’s CTS Innovation Centre spans an area of 3,800m2 (40,903ft2) and is engineered to improve operational efficiency, scalability and reliability across a wide range of therapeutic areas.

The facility’s adaptable and scalable infrastructure supports continuous operations, while comprehensive cybersecurity protocols are in place to protect sensitive clinical trial data.

The centre is equipped with a fully automated order fulfilment system, cold-chain distribution, cryogenic storage and dedicated packaging zones, safeguarding strict product integrity at every point across the supply chain.

The automated order fulfilment system is designed to improve the speed, accuracy and reliability of clinical supply deliveries.

The centre’s extensive temperature-zone capabilities allow Zuellig Pharma to manage a wide range of clinical trial stock keeping units under stringent ambient, cold, frozen, deep-frozen, cryogenic and return storage conditions.

The facility’s specialised repackaging infrastructure can support controlled environments for ambient, cold, frozen and amber light repackaging requirements.

These controlled settings are designed for precise handling of temperature-sensitive products and to meet rigorous clinical and regulatory standards, ensuring the integrity of products is preserved throughout the clinical trial life cycle.

In addition, the centre utilises an integrated end-to-end tracking and monitoring system, offering complete chain of custody, full traceability and compliance with GxP standards, thereby supporting quality and regulatory adherence throughout all stages of the process.

Equipment installed

Zuellig Pharma’s CTS Innovation Centre is equipped with the HaiPick System 1 automated storage and retrieval system, comprising four HaiPick A42T automated case-handling mobile robots (ACRs), with two dedicated to the ambient zone and the other two operating within the cold zone.

HaiPick System 1 increases storage density, boosts operational efficiency, and enables faster, more reliable delivery of clinical trial materials.

The technology streamlines both inbound and outbound processes, enabling Zuellig Pharma to handle larger volumes of clinical materials with improved turnaround times and consistent reliability.

This integration also supports sustainable operations and positions the organisation for long-term growth.

HaiPick System 1 details

The HaiPick System 1 comprises HaiPick ACRs, inbound/outbound workstations, industry-standard racking or shelving, racks or containers and HaiQ software.

The systems offer a total storage capacity of 6,500 locations across both ambient and cold zones. The shelving height of the systems reaches 7.35m, enabling high-density vertical storage within the facility.

The telescopic lift ACRs can carry up to nine payloads at once using multiple storage trays, significantly enhancing picking efficiency. The system can handle both plastic totes and carton boxes, supporting separate or mixed picking operations at heights of up to 12m.

The HaiPick ACRs comply with CE Mark and US workplace safety standards, and Wi-Fi connectivity ensures seamless operation. They feature multiple safety protection features such as obstacle detection, obstacle avoidance, anti-collision alarm and emergency stop.

HaiPick systems are operated through workstations, with HaiPick robots collecting inbound inventory and transporting outbound picks for delivery.

Each workstation is ergonomically designed, achieves more than 99% order-picking accuracy, and can be configured to optimise workflow efficiency and throughput, or to enable smooth integration with other technologies and processes.

HaiPick systems are designed to integrate smoothly with most existing warehouse management systems and warehouse execution systems. HaiQ Software delivers robust digital visibility of inventory quantities and attributes, while optimising robot routing to reduce travel time and improve picking speed and overall efficiency.

Contractors involved

The HaiPick System 1 for the facility was supplied by Hai Robotics, a warehouse robotics and automation systems provider.
