Curia is a global contract research, development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) that partners with biopharmaceutical customers to advance life-changing therapies from discovery through commercialisation.

Our integrated services span small molecules, generic APIs, biologics and sterile fill-finish manufacturing, backed by regulatory and analytical capabilities.

Areas of deep specialisation include small-molecule drug discovery, chemical development and API manufacturing, complex generic APIs, high-potency APIs (HPAPI), steroids and hormones, controlled substances, fermentation and biocatalysis, industrial chromatography, flow chemistry, lipids and LNP components.

EU GMP Annex 1 and 21 CFR part 1 compliant aseptic filtration facilities in Valladolid, Spain
Purpose-built HPAPI facilities integrating closed-system processing, containment engineering, and cGMP manufacturing for compounds requiring stringent occupational exposure controls
Large-scale chromatography systems enabling high-resolution purification, impurity removal, and efficient isolation of complex APIs throughout development and commercial manufacturing
Expertise in microbial fermentation, process optimization, and commercial manufacturing, supported by scalable bioreactor capacity and comprehensive downstream processing capabilities
Continuous flow chemistry capabilities enabling enhanced reaction control, improved heat and mass transfer, and scalable manufacturing of complex pharmaceutical intermediates and APIs

With 20+ global sites, 3,000+ employees and a proven regulatory track record with the FDA, the EMA and the PMDA, among others, Curia is a trusted CDMO partner for complex chemistry and next-generation modalities.

Small-molecule APIs and complex chemistry manufacturing

Curia’s small-molecule network is purpose-built for niche, high-barrier and technically demanding APIs. More than 600 small-molecule experts and three decades of medicinal chemistry and structure-based design underpin every program, from milligram discovery batches to multi-ton commercial supply. Our chemists routinely handle multi-step syntheses, cryogenic reactions, organometallic chemistry, chiral resolution and demanding particle-size control.

HPAPI, steroids, hormones and controlled substances

We handle OEB1–OEB5 compounds with isolator-based containment for OEB4/OEB5, supported by SafeBridge-certified facilities and dedicated micronisation suites. Our European centre of excellence for steroids and hormones combines 25+ years of steroid chemistry, more than 60 commercial steroidal products, and specialised capabilities in aseptic API sterilisation, fluorination, phosphates and lyophilisation.

For controlled substances, our teams cover DEA Schedule I–V molecules, including phenidates and opioid precursors, with the licensing, containment and quality systems required to serve tightly regulated markets in the US, Europe and beyond.

Fermentation, biocatalysis and industrial chromatography

Our biotransformation platform spans microbials. Fermentation from sub-millilitre screens up to industrial vessels, using bacteria, yeast, fungi and streptomycetes — both native producers and engineered GMO hosts. Upstream capabilities are paired with advanced downstream processing, including ATEX-compliant filtration and centrifugation.

Industrial chromatography is a signature strength, with GMP columns ranging from 100mL up to 500L for normal-phase, reverse-phase, ion-exchange, affinity and size-exclusion separations. This integrated platform underpins the manufacturing of complex APIs, as well as speciality lipids for LNP-based vaccines and RNA therapeutics.

Sterile fill-finish, biologics and analytical services

On the drug product side, Curia operates sterile fill-finish facilities in the US and the UK. Our biologics business, strengthened by the acquisitions of LakePharma and Integrity Bio, covers antibody discovery on the Bruker Beacon platform, cell line development, mammalian and microbial drug substance and formulation.

Analytical services — method development, validation, stability and release testing — sit alongside every asset in the network, delivering a coherent CMC package that supports vaccines, biologics, small molecule injectables, LNP components and orphan drugs on one integrated backbone.

Global network, regulatory reach and program delivery

Curia’s footprint of 20+ global sites and 3,000+ employees spans the US, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, the UK and India, giving customers supply chain resilience and dual-sourcing options across regions.

Our sites are routinely inspected by more than 20 health authorities, including the FDA, the EMA, the PMDA and the ANVISA, and are backed by 90+ API DMFs and CEPs filed worldwide. A dedicated Program Management Office, stage-gate governance and transparent risk management give partners a single point of accountability from feasibility to launch.

Don’t hesitate to get in touch with us to discuss how Curia can accelerate your next programme.

Curia was founded in 1991 as Albany Molecular Research, Inc. (AMRI), building its foundation on scientific innovation and earning early recognition for the discovery and development of the active pharmaceutical ingredient in Allegra.

Over three decades, the organisation has expanded its capabilities and global footprint through strategic acquisitions — including Crystal Pharma, Euticals, Gadea Pharmaceutical Group, Ragactives, LakePharma and Integrity Bio — evolving from a discovery chemistry specialist into a fully integrated global CDMO.

Rebranded as Curia in 2021, the company today partners with biopharmaceutical customers to accelerate discovery, development and manufacturing timelines and help bring life-changing therapies to patients. Learn more at curiaglobal.com
