Alconox answers key questions regarding the cleaning of laboratory glassware for liquid chromatography / mass spectrometry (LC/MS) applications.

Q) What is the best way to clean LC/MS glassware
A) Alconox has published a procedure on the formal LC/MS glassware cleaning procedure with Liquinox® Critical Cleaning Liquid Detergent. Here is an excerpt of its procedure:

  1. Pre-soak all glassware and equipment as soon after use as is feasible in an ambient temperature 1% Liquinox solution (10ml/l). Try to avoid allowing any residues to dry on to the items before pre-soaking. Immerse completely and rotate to release any air bubbles from any air entrapping shaped items. Allow to soak until ready for washing. Liquinox detergent does not contain any polyethylene glycol or cationic surfactant sticky substances that sometimes cause interfering residues on glassware.
  2. Make a fresh warm or hot (between 40°C and 60°C) 1% solution of Liquinox (10ml/l) for washing when ready to wash. Do not use too much detergent as this can make rinsing more difficult.
