The global pharma industry noticed a 1.8% rise in IT hiring activity in August 2021 over the previous month, led by Bausch Health Companies 6.53% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The pharma industry’s overall hiring activity increased 1.89% when compared with July 2021.

Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 1.96% share of the global pharma industry’s hiring activity in August 2021, flat growth over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of August 2021 were 1.93% higher when compared with the previous month.
The increase was a result of 3.5% lower job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 47.66% emerged as the top IT occupation in the pharma hiring activity in August 2021, a 7.54% growth over the previous month. Miscellaneous Computer Occupations came in second with a share of 12.95% in August 2021, down 9.24% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Computer and Information Analysts with a 12.35% share in August 2021, a growth of 12.85% over the previous month, and Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a 12.09% share in August 2021 and a rise of 17.27% over July 2021.
Top five pharma companies by recruitment activity in August 2021
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 1.71% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global pharma industry during August 2021 over July 2021.
Bausch Health Companies posted 297 IT jobs in August 2021 and registered a drop of 16.34% over the previous month, followed by HCA Healthcare with 231 jobs and a 2.67% growth. CVS Health with 219 IT jobs and Oak Street Health with 149 jobs, recorded a 14.66% growth and a 10.37% rise, respectively, while F. Hoffmann-La Roche recorded a 5.44% drop with 139 job postings during August 2021.
Regional composition of IT hiring in pharma industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global pharma IT hiring activity in August 2021 with a 74.08% share, which marked a 16.33% rise over the previous month.
Asia-Pacific stood next with 13.01%, registering a 9.63% month-on-month growth. Europe was the third leading region with an 11.17% share and a 31.07% drop over July 2021.
In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 0.97% and a month-on-month drop of 18.52%. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.57%, registering a 3.7% decrease over the previous month.
