The global pharma industry noticed a 2.6% rise in IT hiring activity in July 2021 over the previous month, led by Bausch Health Companies’s 8.67% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.

The pharma industry’s overall hiring activity increased 2.2% when compared with June 2021.

Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 1.91% share of the global pharma industry’s hiring activity in July 2021, flat growth over the last three-month average share.

According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of July 2021 were 3.06% lower compared with the previous month.

The decrease was a result of 5.45% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers drive pharma IT hiring activity

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 46.53% emerged as the top IT occupation in the pharma hiring activity in July 2021, a 2.31% decline over the previous month. Miscellaneous Computer Occupations came in second with a share of 15.6% in July 2021, up 2.9% over the previous month.

The other prominent IT roles include Computer and Information Analysts with a 12.18% share in July 2021, decline of 3.67% over the previous month, and Database and Network Administrators and Architects with an 11.23% share in July 2021 and drop of 6.5% over June 2021.

Top five pharma companies by recruitment activity in July 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average an increase of 38.66% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global pharma industry during July 2021 over June 2021.

Bausch Health Companies posted 355 IT jobs in July 2021 and registered a rise of 89.84% over the previous month, followed by HCA Healthcare with 220 jobs and a 19.57% rise. CVS Health with 171 IT jobs and AstraZeneca with 146 jobs, recorded a 6.04% decline and a 64.04% growth, respectively, while F. Hoffmann-La Roche recorded a 36.89% growth with 141 job postings during July 2021.

Regional composition of IT hiring in pharma industry

North America emerged as the leading region in the global pharma IT hiring activity in July 2021 with a 68.53% share, which marked a 0.74% drop over the previous month.

Europe stood next with 17.04%, registering a 12.22% month-on-month increase. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 12.4% share and a 12.56% decline over June 2021.

In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 1.29% and a month-on-month growth of 76.67%. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.73%, registering a 66.67% increase over the previous month.
