Hypoparathyroidism is an indication for drug development with over 10 pipeline drugs currently active. According to GlobalData, preregistered drugs for Hypoparathyroidism have a 100% likelihood of approval (LoA) indication benchmark. GlobalData’s report assesses how phase transition success rate (PTSR) and likelihood of approval (LoA) scores for pipeline drugs in Hypoparathyroidism compared to historical benchmarks. GlobalData tracks drug-specific phase transition and likelihood of approval scores, in addition to indication benchmarks based off 18 years of historical drug development data. Attributes of the drug, company and its clinical trials play a fundamental role in drug-specific PTSR and likelihood of approval.
Hypoparathyroidism overview
Hypoparathyroidism is decreased function of the parathyroid glands with underproduction of parathyroid hormone. This leads to low levels of calcium in the blood, often causing cramping and twitching of muscles (involuntary muscle contraction) and several other symptoms. The condition can be inherited, but it is also encountered after thyroid or parathyroid gland surgery, and it can be caused by immune system-related damage as well as a number of rarer causes. The treatment includes an artificial form of the hormone that can be administered as replacement, calcium replacement, or vitamins.
