The report also covers products from therapy areas such as Oncology, Central Nervous System, Ophthalmology, and Undisclosed which include the indications Unspecified Cancer, Triple-Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC), Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD), Alzheimer’s Disease, Glaucoma, Retinopathy, and Unspecified. It also reviews key players involved in Sortilin targeted therapeutics development with respective active and dormant or discontinued products.
The Sortilin pipeline targets constitutes close to 20 molecules. Out of which, approximately 20 molecules are developed by companies and the remaining by the universities/institutes. The molecules developed by companies in Phase III, Phase II, Phase I, Preclinical, and Discovery stages are 1, 1, 2, 7, and 8 respectively.
Sortilin overview
Sortilin is a sorting receptor in the Golgi compartment and acts as a clearance receptor on the cell surface. It is required for protein transport from the Golgi apparatus to the lysosomes by a pathway that is independent of the mannose-6-phosphate receptor (M6PR). Lysosomal proteins bind specifically to sortilin in the Golgi apparatus and the resulting receptor-ligand complex is transported to an acidic prelysosomal compartment where the low pH mediates the dissociation of the complex.
